Teresa Burgess, Best Wishes to you

It's confirmed. Meredith Corp. fired the only woman to lead a Portland television station, Teresa Burgess, who ran KPTV and KPDX. She will be replaced in the interim by Paul Karpowicz, who is the head of Meredith Broadcasting Group (got that job in February).

Word is she was fired because her sales team couldn't convert strong numbers in the morning and night into increased revenue and couldn't get sales numbers for UPN - KPDX up. With that, expect a few sales heads to roll. Don't expect any big changes in news, since the corporate folks know they're delivering.

The staff was told, as we know, at 9:30 this morning.

She was much admired in the industry, so expect a follow-up post about her new job (plus she probably walked away with an admirable severance).

The only GM that I got a hug from! (I wouldn't have wanted one from any previous bosses anyway)..she was a great boss, like working for Mom except younger.

A great person is now available to be a GM for a station in need. KPTV/KPDX's loss will be someone elses gain.

Isn't there another station in town still looking for a new GM ??? :)

Teresa is a class act and will be missed greatly. This is a big loss for all who worked with her. It would be great to see her end up at KOIN. Those poor people could use a little of her positive energy. Best of luck Teresa.

Teresa: I know you read this site. What can you tell us about what happened? Will you end up at KOIN?

The first GM I worked under would just assume run you over with his Bentley than give you the time of day. The 2nd GM would at least say HI to you in the hallways. Teresa not only would talk with her fellow workers, but she would be *truly interested* in what we saying!

This one time, during breaking news, she even ran studio camera for 1/2 hour until someone arrived to take over. She's very much a CLASS ACT!
